RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT
Since 1964, when Toyo Aluminium established the world's first comprehensive aluminium foil research laboratory at its Yao Works, we have been actively advancing R&D as a leading manufacturer of aluminium foil and aluminium paste.
In response to the changing environment in the fields of science, technology, and innovation in recent years, we established the Toyo Aluminium Semiconductor Joint Research Laboratory at Osaka University in 2020. In 2021, we reorganized the Advanced Technology Division, which consisted of three units. Furthermore, in 2023, we restructured the development teams in the Powder Technology Research Unit and the Foil Technology Research Unit. Under this new organizational structure, our focus is on creating new products and technologies with an eye on next-generation markets.

Powder Technology Research Unit
The Powder Technology Research Unit conducts basic and applied research on powders and develops new businesses and products. We are involved in development across a wide range of fields, including energy, electronic components, food packaging, industrial materials, and color effect pigments. Moreover, we engage in basic research on our company's surface treatment technologies and various functional materials to enter new fields and move towards productization.

Foil Technology Research Unit
The Foil Technology Research Unit specializes in the development of aluminium alloy foil and surface treatment technologies tailored to specific applications. We develop new products that leverage our proprietary technology, taking into account customer needs in the fields of batteries, capacitors, and electronic circuits, where the market is expected to expand in the future. Additionally, we conduct analytical tests to support customers and companies within the Toyal Group, both domestically and internationally, in solving various problems, thereby contributing to quality improvement and the rapid development of new products.

R & D Supporting Unit
The R&D Supporting Unit formulates technological strategies, manages operations, and oversees intellectual property rights to protect and effectively utilize them through a trinity of activities: development, intellectual property, and sales. We promote collaboration among industry, government, and academia. By providing support for technological exchange with external parties and participating in national projects, we engage in activities that create opportunities for new development and entry into new fields.
The R&D Supporting Unit conducts R&D on electronic components, food packaging, and color effect pigments in powder research. In foil research, we focus on the commercialization of energy-related products such as batteries and capacitors, as well as electronic circuits.
